Cappadocia & Cilicia Ancestral Journey · October/November 2027
My great-grandparents were from Roumkioi — "the Greek village" — in the Adana region of Cilicia, what is now called Gürümze in southern Turkey. In 1923 they were uprooted in the population exchange and resettled in Neos Mylotopos, Macedonia in northern Greece.
This journey is my return. And I want to take you with me.
We'll travel through Cappadocia, where Greek communities lived for millennia, trace the road to Cilicia where my family's village still stands, and follow the thread back to northern Greece where the refugees rebuilt their lives and their tables.
Along the way we'll cook, we'll eat, and we'll understand through food what it means to carry a culture across a border.
